Lying between the busy dockyard port of Portsmouth and the popular recreational waters of Chichester Harbour, Langstone Harbour supports a range of commercial activities that shape the character of the Harbour and contribute to the local economy.
On most days you can see ships coming and going from the Solent or discharging their cargoes of sea-dredged aggregates at the wharves in the north of the Harbour where the material is prepared for market - over half a million tonnes each year.
At the Harbour entrance to the south the Hayling Ferry provides a year-round service to bridge the gap between Ferry Point on Hayling Island and Eastney on Portsea Island. This important service provides a scenic and environmentally friendly alternative to the 15 mile journey by car.
As well as the Hayling Ferry, fishermen use the Board’s pontoons to land their catches from Langstone Harbour and the wider Solent. Charter boats also use the pontoons to embark and disembark their passengers for sea-angling trips in the Solent and beyond. |
