Several environmental groups are based around the harbour. The Friends of Langstone Harbour are an active organisation and have work parties on the last Saturday of each month (except December) and usually run from 0900 to mid day. Venues around Langstone Harbour vary. The tentative programme is below. Details from John Goodspeed (023 9222 1361).
West Hayling Local nature Reserve has recently formed a voluntary conservation group and the Hampshire Wildlife Trust has a local group for Havant, Hayling and Emsworth. There are a number of other groups involved in wildlife conservation in the local area, details of which can be found on the Havant Nature web site. Signage group Langstone Harbour Board has been coordinating a signage project involving charities, harbour stakeholders and the local authorities. The group aims to produce a series of signs for use around the harbour promoting its diversity of uses, heritage and natural history. This joint approach to signage ensures a consistent message is displayed throughout the harbour as well as strengthening partnerships with interest groups and stakeholders. The first sign, ‘Muddy but Magical’ is now in place at five locations around the harbour, keep a look out for the next two signs, ‘History and Archaeology’ and ‘Wildlife’ that will be on display soon. Downloadable versions of the signs are available below.
