The Sailing Clubs of Langstone
Harbour have a full programme of events throughout the season.
Additionally, Southsea Marina, Portsmouth Outdoor Centre and the
Langstone Harbour Water Skier's Association host events during the
summer.
The Langstone Harbour Board hosts
educational events aimed at raising the level of awareness of
conservation issues in the harbour. The Board also promotes events
in partnership with other conservation bodies such as RSPB and Hampshire
Wildlife Trust.
Marine
The sailing season starts at Easter and
continues through to the end of October. Sailing clubs hold summer
regattas and the sailing programme includes events for both cruisers and
dinghies. Langstone Harbour opens onto the popular waters of the
Solent where cruisers from neighbouring harbours, the Isle of Wight and
further afield enjoy social and competitive sailing throughout the year.
The Harbour is also home to an active fleet of
dinghies, small day boats and fishing vessels associated with the clubs
around the harbour. A full programme of club races and a number of
fishing events take place in the harbour each year.
The Portsmouth Outdoor Centre is an educational
establishment which runs well-supervised sailing courses for children of
all ages. The Centre also hosts RYA short courses for both
beginners and experienced sailors.
Environmental
The Board and other environmental groups
involved in work around the harbour host indoor and outdoor events which
focus on the ecology and wildlife of the harbour and promote broad
conservation objectives for the site as a whole. These events
include walks, beachcombing and talks on nature conservation subjects.
