STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT

THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE

An important feature of the Board’s constitution is the requirement for an Advisory Committee. The 1962 Act established an Advisory Committee of 11 members representing 8 stakeholder organisations.

Subsequent Orders amended the provisions relating to the Advisory Committee. In 1985 provision was made for up to 5 additional bodies nominated by the Board with the agreement of the Advisory Committee. In 1999 membership of the Advisory Committee was extended to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds and the Environment Agency.

The Advisory Committee meets the week before each Board meeting and considers the full agenda for the next Board meeting. The Board have a duty to consult the Advisory Committee on all matters substantially affecting the preservation, regulation, management and improvement of the Harbour. The Board must also consider any matters referred to them on these topics by the Advisory Committee.

FRIENDS OF LANGSTONE HARBOUR

The Friends of Langstone Harbour is a group of people with widespread interests in the Harbour but particularly in its maintenance as a place where people can come and enjoy it.  This involves care of the surrounding area, an interest in conservation for nature, maintaining access for people and much else.

We have over 80 members and obviously would welcome more.  Membership costs just £4 per annum per household.  To join just send your subscription with your name, address and if possible your e mail address to our membership secretary John Goodspeed at 22, Hilltop Crescent Cosham PO6 1BD.

You will get an occasional newsletter and or more frequent e mail news, invitations to meetings, walks and work parties.

SAILING AND SPORTS CLUBS

You can enjoy the natural tranquility of the unspoilt Harbour environment whether under sail or power. At Langstone Harbour you will find clubs for many recreational activities, including sailing, cruising, fishing, jet skiing, waterskiing and diving. Forms relating to several of these activities are linked below. There are moorings available for boats up to 12 metres and several public slipways for visitors with trailed boats.

With over 4,500 acres of water space at high water there’s room for everyone. Please remember that Langstone Harbour is a site of considerable ecological sensitivity. Take care not to cause disturbance - the Harbour speed limit is 10 knots.
