Marine Team Apprentice (Small Commercial Vessel Crewmember) Level 3 

Duration: Fixed Term for up to 24 months

Salary: £19,009 per annum

Hours: Full-time (35 hrs/week, rising to 37.5 after probation), including some weekends and bank holidays during the summer season.

Langstone Harbour Board is seeking an enthusiastic Small Commercial Vessel Crewmember Apprentice to join our Marine Team, based on Hayling Island.  This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in harbour operations, vessel handling, and marine services while working towards a Level 3 Small Commercial Vessel Crewmember Apprenticeship certification.​  You'll work alongside an experienced team operating patrol boats, a workboat, and a research vessel, supporting harbour safety, infrastructure maintenance, and marine operations.

​

Training includes SCTW safety courses, RYA qualifications, and MCA approved modules, preparing you for a career in the maritime industry.

​

Requirements:

  • GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)

  • ENG1 Seafarers Medical (during apprenticeship)

  • Holding an RYA Powerboat Level 2 qualification (or similar) is desirable.             

  • Full clean driving licence desirable, but not required

Seasonal Patrol Officer

Duration: Seasonal (April-October)

Hourly rate: £13.45

Hours: Part-time weekends and evening hours

​

We are looking for Seasonal Patrol Officers to support harbour safety during the busy summer season.  Post holders will undertake on the water patrols and shoreside duties to assist harbour users, promote safety, and ensure compliance with byelaws.  The role involves providing customer information, monitoring VHF radio traffic, assisting vessels, and supporting a range of marine and shoreside operations.​​

​

This post requires a professional, considerate approach when dealing with the public and the ability to work as part of a team in a varied and sometimes physically demanding environment.

​

The position is part-time, requiring weekend and occasional evening work between April and October, paid at £13.45 per hour.  Applicants must hold an RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate, and have good seamanship and communication skills.

​
